"An Evening With Phil Tufnell" is taking place on Thursday 30 March 2023, at the Empire Hall in Totton in aid of The Wessex Kidney Patients Association (WKPA).
The WKPA is a registered charity that provides financial help and support for people suffering with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other associated kidney problems. We need to raise much needed funds to help us cope with the increased demand on our services and it is hoped that this event will do just that.
The WKPA was formed in 1974 and was established to promote the welfare of patients who attend Queen Alexandra hospital in Portsmouth, University Renal Paediatric unit in Southampton and nine satellite kidney dialysis units. It covers an area which includes most of Hampshire and extends into the county borders of Berkshire, Dorset, West Sussex and Wiltshire. The charitable work that we do can be anything from buying a microwave for a patient struggling financially, to helping dialysis units purchase medical items. For instance we recently purchased much need dialysis chairs for the Southampton Children's' Renal unit and are also co-funding a part time assistant for the Young Adults Youth Worker at QA hospital, Portsmouth. We do not receive any government funding, therefore any monies that we receive are through donations and fund raising.
Phil Tufnell, a former international cricketer, is probably best know for being a team captain on "A Question of Sport" for 13 years, alongside Matt Dawson. He has also stared in "Strictly Come Dancing" and "I'm A Celebrity", which he won in 2003. His cheerful personality has made him a very popular presenter and his one-man shows are not to be missed.
