The High Foundation has generously sponsored the New Holland Band’s Concerts in the Parks Initiative with the second concert in the series being held on Sunday, August 17 at Thoms P. Grater Park in Ephrata. The ensemble, esteemed as the 2nd oldest community band in the nation, was established in 1829. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Bandshell located in Thomas P. Grater Park on Cocalico Street in Ephrata. Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended. For more information visit www.newhollandband.org.
The performance will include several tunes from the Stauss family including “Trisch-Tratsch Polka” and “Emperor Waltz”, Henry Filmore’s march “His Honor”, and J.C. Handy’s “St. Louis Blues”. The film industry gets a nod with The Wizard of Oz and the featured solo for the concert will be Richard Fitz performing Billy Joel’s “Root Beer Rag”. Of course, no New Holland Band performance would be complete without John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever”.
