Espiritu Presents Rhythms and Reflections - 2:00PM and 7:30PM - April 5, 2025

Showcasing Espiritu's versatility, the diverse program features selections ranging from bouncy pop tunes to gorgeous choral harmonies, as well as Canadian and world music.

This concert offers something for everyone: Joni Mitchell's pop classic "Big Yellow Taxi" brings an irresistible energy, while a setting of a Yeats poem invites quiet reflection. A humorous nod to Pachelbel intertwines with the dreamy elegance of Debussy, and a rousing island song from the Torres Strait infuses the program with rhythm and vitality.Renaissance charm shines in Passereau's Il est bel et bon, adding a touch of playful exuberance.

Canadian music takes centre stage, with a powerful composition by Sherryl Sewepagaham of the Little River Cree Nation; a lively, voyageur-worthy game of rhymes from the French provinces; and a familiar folk song arranged by British Columbia's Larry Nickel. With impressive percussion and emotive vocal performances, Espiritu promises an evening of rhythmic exhilaration, delicate beauty, and remarkable depth.
