The SpeakEasy Project's founder Anyta Wilson, a licensed therapist, will explain the difference between mental health and mental illness. Additionally, we'll explore why some mental illnesses seem to be treated as "mild" while others are seen as "extreme". If you or a loved one has lived with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, autism (or any other diagnosis) you are especially invited. We want to hear your story about finding support and acceptance or about the pain of not being able to talk about what you're going through because of our society's bias against mental illness.

At the SpeakEasy Project, we recognize that mental well-being is the cornerstone of personal growth, improved interpersonal relations, and building a more empathetic society. Our commitment to fostering respectful and inclusive conversations begins with a profound understanding of the importance of emotional safety and protecting the well-being of our guests. The SpeakEasy Project is a safe space for all people to authentically be themselves.

This event includes dinner, a cash bar, dessert, information about mental health, guided conversations, and communication skills for talking about this difficult topic. All profits will be donated to local organizations that support mental wellness in the St Louis region.

The SpeakEasy Project, a nonprofit that believes in the power of dialogue to change the world, brings people together over a good meal to explore topics that allow people to share their authentic selves and experiences. We host dinners in the community with the goal of teaching interpersonal communication skills, improving empathy and self development. Our experienced team is led by licensed mental health therapist, Anyta Wilson MSW, LCSW. Her extensive background in workshop development, group facilitation, and therapeutic healing has shaped our approach. She has collaborated with organizations such as Kids In The Middle, BJC Healthcare System, and the Deaconess Foundation and brings that experience to the SpeakEasy Project.
