The International Online Forum returns with a second edition, following its successful turnout for the first edition last October, to enhance understand and support for Third Culture children with specific learning differences (SpLD).

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), DAS International presents Part 2: Supporting Third Culture Kids with Learning Differences In Secondary Schools, to further promote discussion and discourse on ways to provide ample support for children who may struggle with learning differences.

Third Culture Kids are children who spend their formative years overseas, in a culture other than their parents'. They are often enrolled in international schools, exposing them to multiple cultures and customs, forming a hybrid or “third” culture. While they are able to gain broader and more varied experiences and develop multilingualism, their learning challenges may go undetected, and resources may be limited for them.

This time, the forum takes a deeper look at Third Culture Kids in secondary schools. If you are a parent, educator or someone simply passionate about the Special Educational Needs (SEN) sector, we invite you to join us to better understand ways to work with and help these teenage students achieve.

The forum is moderated by Anaberta Oehlers-Jaen, Head of DAS International (Singapore), who will be joined by the following panel of experts:

  • George Cowie, Director & Founder, Learning Support Asia (Cambodia)
  • Harshi Sehmar, School Principal, The Village (International Special Needs School) (Thailand)
  • Jun Athens, Parent & Educator, Binus School Simprug (Indonesia)
  • Shilpa Madane, Senior Specialist Tutor, DAS International (Singapore)
  • Deborah Hewes, Parent & Assistant Director of Publicity and Publications, DAS (Singapore)

The following topics will be covered:

  • Navigating children with SpLD: Overcoming challenges and practical tips for parents
  • A tool kit for parents in supporting their children in secondary schools
  • Alternative educational pathways and opportunities: Is vocational route a possible option?
  • Using technology to make connections and as a support system

Join DAS International at this online forum, learn about the SEN sector in various countries and share your experiences with us!
