Chinn's book, Dancing in Their Light: A Daughter's Unfinished Memoir, is a moving and illuminating autobiography that chronicles her Chinese immigrant family's' journey in America while also telling the colorful story of the rise "Polynesian" restaurants / nightclubs and their famous floor shows in the 1960s and '70s. It recounts Chinn's remarkable childhood working in her parent's popular nightclub - The House of Mah Jong - as a teenage exotic hula and sword dancer. As she explains in the book, it was in this improbable setting that the seeds of her prolific philanthropic career were sown.
