Mark O'Connor began his creative journey at the feet of American fiddling legend Benny Thomasson and the iconic French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Over the course of his distinguished career as a performer and composer, he has melded these influences into a new American classical music. Mr. O'Connor has won three Grammys and seven CMA awards, as well as multiple national fiddle, guitar, and mandolin champion titles. His Fiddle Concerto has become the most performed violin concerto composed in the last 50 years. His credits include representing the United States Information Agency in cultural diplomacy to six continents and performing in front of several US presidents.
Mr. O'Connor has made 45 recordings as a soloist and collaborator. He received his Grammys for the 1991 album The New Nashville Cats; for a recording with Yo-Yo Ma, Appalachian Journey (2000), which sold over a million copies; and for a 2016 album, Coming Home, made with his wife Maggie (his duo partner) and other family members. He has also authored a series of educational books on "the O'Connor Method," which is the fastest growing violin method in the country.
