Sunday, June 27th at 4:00 pm, the Kalliope Reed Quintet kicks off their 2021 summer season in Yarmouth with their new concert program Contemporary Americana, with the world premiere of Daniel Baldwin's Seven Colored Earth. The program features a stunning line-up of works by living American composers alongside a phenomenal arrangement of George Gershwin's American in Paris. Inspired by Yarmouth's natural landscape, other works on the program include Jenni Brandon's Found Objects: On the Beach, Becky Turro's Thaw - inspired by the spring thawing of Acadia National Park, and of course, the world premiere of Daniel Baldwin's Seven Colored Earth - a piece to be featured on the Kalliope's upcoming debut album!
The Kalliope Reed Quintet, founded in 2019, is the first professional reed quintet in New England. Hailed by the Boston Woodwind Society as "a fantastic musical group full of personality and musical abilities, adding up to a sum much greater than the parts", Kalliope has led the evolution of this ensemble through their many commissions and unabashedly ambitious programming. As a contemporary chamber ensemble and one of the first 50 reed quintets worldwide, their mission is to expand and diversify the reed quintet repertoire and to further strengthen the role of contemporary chamber music in the 21st century by presenting unique, engaging and educational programs to communities locally and worldwide. Their 2021 summer season features eight world premieres across six concerts, and they could not be more excited to kick off this summer season in Yarmouth and hope you can join for their first in-person event in 18 months!
This concert will also be featured later online if you prefer to enjoy our music virtually. Join us for the online premiere Monday July 5th 7:00 pm on youtube live!:
