The Color Purple (Musical)

This glorious musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel spotlights Celie, a young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of an epic story. 

With a joyous Tony Award-winning score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, an intensely moving American classic, and a triumphant theatrical treasure.

Running May 12 - June 4, 2023, The Color Purple is directed for The Umbrella Stage Company by BW Gonzalez, written by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray.

Located in the heart of historic Concord Center, The Umbrella is ADA-accessible, a proud partner in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s EBT Card-to-Culture program, and provides free parking and free admission to its visual arts galleries.
