The Artisan Mercado, is a group of local artists and artisans who participate in events to market and sell their handcrafted art and arts and  crafts. The downtown Austin Artisan Mercado, which attracts tourists and locals alike, began in 2017 in front of Mexic-Arte Museum and moved to Frost Bank Plaza then the Old Bakery and Emporium and now showcases its products at La Pena Gallery.
The group is organized by jewelry  designer and owner of online boutique Athena Silversmith Claudio Lopez and his partner public relations professional and translator Irma Orozco.
The Artisan Mercado was born five years ago through the initiative of Lopez and Orozco with the goal of creating a market that focuses exclusively on Latin-themed art and art and crafts. In 2017, Mexic-Arte Museum and the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development were asked to support the project, which currently represents more than 30 local artists, most of whom are latinos from Mexico, the southwestern United States, Honduras, Guatemala and Colombia. La Pena became the group's fiscal sponsor in 2019. However, throughout these five years, the market has featured artists and artisans from other places, such as Pakistan, India, Africa and the United States.
