Give your child or the child in you a hands-on experience at the Chinese Musical Instrument Garden (formerly known as the Chinese Instrument Petting Zoo) with members of the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble in Room B at the Roundhouse Community Centre on Saturday, June 14. The program will run from 12:30-2:30 pm so drop by then to hear, touch and try a variety of Chinese music instruments at this free event.
The Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble, featuring Jirong Huang (erhu), Yusha "Sarah" Tan (guzheng), Ling Yang (pipa) and Zhongxi Wu (suona, sheng), will perform, showcase their instruments and provide hands on experience to those who attend. Hear the Chinese instruments imitate nature, animals and the human voice. Multilingual singer, musician and composer Ginalina will host the event, introduce the musicians and their instruments and perform.
Ginalina's music and written books have been featured on CBC, CBC Kids, Canadian Geographic, Radio Canada, Cabin Radio, and BC Kids' Knowledge Network. Her multiple albums, which focus on nature, community, and timeless themes of love and kindness, have received 3 Juno nominations and 2 Western Canadian Music Awards in recent years. ginalinamusic.com
Formed in 1989, Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble is the first professional Chinese music group established in Canada. This Ensemble of highly accomplished instrumentalists, who combine technical mastery with a passionate approach to music, performs an eclectic repertoire that embraces traditional Chinese and contemporary Canadian music.
