Chariot Festival

The St. Louis Temple of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness will hold its annual ‘Ratha Yatra’ Chariot Festival on July 9, 2022, at Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, and we would be honored to have your presence.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna movement, was founded in 1966, in New York City, by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, in order to spread Bhakti Yoga, or love of God, by chanting God’s name. ISKCON has over 800 centers throughout the world.

The Ratha Yatra, or Chariot Festival, is an ancient jubilee that originated in India, and is celebrated annually throughout the world normally during the month of July. The meaning of the festival is that the Lord of the Universe, called Jaganath, comes out of the Temple to visit the people. In other words, “If you don’t come to God, God’s going to come to you.”

The festivities on July 9th begin with the Ratha Yatra parade at 1:00 p.m. at the Tremayne Shelter in Creve Coeur Park. After the parade the program will consist of musical performances, drama, children’s activities, and small group presentations. Also included is a scrumptious vegetarian meal.
