Celebrate Colombian Independence Day at South Norwalk's popular restaurant and nightclub Los Remolinos. Food and drink specials all day long, and DJ music and dancing all night.

Los Remolinos, a spirited Latin-inspired restaurant and bar featuring elevated fare and craft cocktails opened on March 6 in Washington Street Historic District in South Norwalk, CT. Spearheaded by Edwin Montoya and Chef Ismael Carias, the duo behind the successful Appetit Bistro in Port Chester, NY, Los Remolinos features dishes (and cocktails!) from Columbia, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain, and beyond.

"This concept has been in the works for a while now, "says Montoya of the decision to switch gears from the Appetit Bistro brand which originally occupied the space at 136 Washington Street in 2022, "Los Remolinos is a fabulous fit for the neighborhood and the energy that SoNo's dining scene is known for."

Los Remolinos boasts an urban design aesthetic wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed brick walls, and eclectic artwork. A raised private lounge area and bar add depth to the open and sunlit dining room floor.

Chef/Co-owner Ismael Carias, Montoya's partner from the popular Appetit Bistro in Port Chester (since May 2015), has created a menu that takes its culinary cues from Latin America. Menu highlights include appetizers such as garlic shrimp served with tostones, house-made empanadas filled with beef, chicken, chorizo, morcilla, pork, or potato, and a fun and interactive "Bandeja De Boquitas" ($12 per person) with shrimp, steak, scallops, chorizo, and seasonal vegetables cooked over a tabletop flame and served with sauces for dipping. In addition to a large selection of rice bowls, tacos, arepas, burgers, and mixed grill dishes, Chef Carias prepares a variety of more sophisticated dishes as seen with the Pargo Frito, a lightly battered whole red snapper, Lomo Saltado with stir-fried beef, onions, tomato, rice, and fries, and Chuleta De Cerdo, a grilled pork chop served with traditional rice and beans and fried sweet plantains.

The beverage program is vacation-in-a-glass, a potent concoction consisting of the Cadillac Margarita (silver tequila, Grand Marnier, triple sec, lime juice, agave), Mojito Frambuesa (rum, simple syrup, raspberries, mint, club soda), Caipirinha (Cachaça rum, simple syrup, muddled lime)

El Pepino (cucumber-mint-infused vodka, cucumber juice, syrup, lemon), classic Pina Colada, and everyone's favorite Sangria (red wine, brandy, orange juice, fresh fruit). Beer, wine, and refreshing non-alcoholic frescas, juices, and coffees round out the offerings.
