Paul Vossen is a legendary local Farm Advisor and Emeritus Extension Agent who retired from UC Davis in 2016 after 35 years of research and teaching. He has an M.S. in Tree Crops Production and a Certificate in Olive Oil Production from Cordova Spain. Paul is passionate about helping farmers grow better fruit. He brings his extensive experience and wisdom about olives and olive oil to share with you. In this 3 hour session, Paul will cover the basic principles and best practices for fruit tree care, including nectarines, apricots, apples, pears, peaches, plums, persimmon, citrus, figs, and olives. Topics covered will include variety selection, rootstock selection where appropriate, mound planting, irrigation timing, organic fertilization, AND pruning. This class is geared toward backyard gardeners and hobby growers.
*This class will be held in our milling area. If weather permits, a pruning demonstration will be held in the orchards. Please bring appropriate clothing layers to stay comfortable. Closed toed, non-slip footwear appropriate for walking over uneven terrain and in an industrial, production area is required.
Coffee, tea, and light refreshment will be provided.

Paul Vossen is a private consultant and University of California Cooperative Extension Emeritus Farm Advisor who has worked in Sonoma County since 1980. His expertise is in the areas of fruit tree, berry, and specialty vegetable production; pest control; and marketing of farm products. Paul has been teaching pruning courses for 40 + years.
