"The" British Guiana 1856 one cent Black on Magenta
How can one tiny piece of paper be worth 8.3 Million dollars?
For one hundred years it has been recognized as the worlds most valuable stamp. Coveted by Kings, Princes, and Captains of Industry yet only possessed by a very select few. The history of this elusive stamp and its both famous, and infamous, owners.
... Arthur Hind, Irwin Weinberg, John du Pont, Stuart Weitzman ...
Join the British Empire Study Group Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 6 pm on Zoom for a free presentation with Robert Scott, author of two of the sales catalogues for the Magenta. A British Columbia native, Robert is a full-time philatelic consultant and appraiser whose clients range from private individuals, corporations and law firms, as well as specialist auction firms and Sotheby's. Since 2009 he has been a regular guest on Northeast Public Radio, with numismatist colleague David Tripp, discussing stamps and coins.
Do discoveries still happen, and can "The British Guiana" market phenomenon be recreated? An interactive discussion follows the presentation about the World's most well-known stamp. Philatelists, as well as non-philatelists, will find the presentation educational and entertaining. Membership is never required to attend our events.
