GST is one of India’s most important reforms since Independence. The promise that it brings with it after eleven years of initiation is being appreciated unanimously. Presently, there are around 160 countries that have implemented GST, however only two have adopted the dual-GST structure, one of which is India. In India, GST is being jointly and concurrently administered by Centre and 31 states. Both Centre and 31 States have relinquished their independent rights for taxing good and services, and opted for a new taxation system, where both Centre and the States sit together in GST Council and decide about the structure, procedure and rates of GST.
After more than one year since its implementation, it would be fair to say that GST has not only affected the business class but the common man equally. GST: Goods and Service Tax, brings along benefits for the manufacturers and retailers as it avoids cascading of taxes and simplifies compliance. Students, young entrepreneurs, housewives, think of a segment in the society and GST is there to bound them all. Given the magnitude, it is imperative that the mass in whole has an acute understanding of GST and how it affects them.
Sumit Dutt Majumder, former Chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs, took this opportunity to make GST easy and understandable for the common man through his book GST: Explained for common Man. This book reaches out to start-up owners, business consultants, chartered accountants, educational institutes, retailers and others, explaining the basic concepts of GST, along with the technical issues in a simple language. People with or without financial background, will find it most useful while interacting with the Chartered Accountants as well as GST practitioners.
We, at Niyogi Books are delighted to invite you all to a Book Discussion of GST: explained for common man. We further take pleasure to announce that the discussion would be chaired by Shailendra Kumar, Eminent Journalist and Founder Editor of TIOL who will be in conversation with Mr Sumit Dutt Majumdar, the author of the book.
We hope to see you there.
