The African and African American Performing Arts Coalition and K*Star*Productions have announced the 19th annual Black Choreographers Festival: Here and Now (BCF), With performances in Hayward and San Francisco February 11-26. This year, a new venue has been added to bring innovative and significant contemporary dance artists to wider audiences in the Bay Area: University Theater on the campus of Cal State East Bay in Hayward.

New this year, BCF @ CSUEB will feature choreographers that have presented work at BCF over the last decade and are alums of Cal State University Eastbay. BCF @ CSUEB brings to the University Theater vibrant original works by Bay Area and national choreographers including Krystal Bates, laura elaine ellis Shawn Hawkins, Justin Sharlman, Latanya d.Tigner/Dimensions Dance Theatre, and Dazaun Soleyn. 

The performance will be followed by a Cake and Chat event - an opportunity for audience members to mingle and to chat with the choreographers. 

The Black Choreographers Festival: Here and Now (BCF), with scheduled events throughout the year, is directed by Bay Area nonprofits AAAPAC and K*Star*Productions. Since 2005, BCF has served local, national, and international artists with over 150 public events, acknowledging the diverse artistic expression within the context of African and African American dance and culture. BCF incorporates live performance, mentoring, master classes, workshops and special events. It has been awarded commendations from the Alameda County Arts Commission and Board of Supervisors, the California State Senate and receives continuous support from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Alliance for California Traditional Arts, Zellerbach Family Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, as well as community partners Dance Mission Theater, Dimensions Dance Theater, SAFEhouse Arts, Shawl- Anderson Dance Center, SF Dance Film Festival, and numerous small businesses and individual donors.
