BHSS Theatre South Presents VELVET ROPES, a comedy by Joshua Scher

Velvet Ropes, a kooky yet complex comedy written by playwright Joshua Scher, is much more than it may seem. The play takes place entirely in an art museum and challenges the art observer to quantify what is and is not art. The play's characters, EVERYBODY AND EVERYONE, are loosely based on the characters from the Absurdist play Waiting for Godot, by Samuel Beckett (Didi and Gogo). These two tramps find themselves lost or almost trapped in an imaginary place where word play, insults, acts of physical absurdity and vaudevillian style antics transpire. The playwright includes actual dialogue from Waiting for Godot in his Velvet Ropes scenes. In fact, Scher goes so far as to incorporate lines from an actual 1956 play review of Waiting for Godot by New York Time’s reviewer, Brooks Atkinson into the scenes.
