“Put a roof over people experiencing homelessness” is this year’s theme for the annual fundraiser held by Belonging to Each Other (BTEO), Falmouth’s non-profit corporation providing temporary shelter for the homeless. Forced by the COVID19 crisis to abandon the usual in-person Gala, the group seeks to raise funds this year by holding an online Silent Auction on October 9-17.
The auction can be accessed by going to BTEO’s website at www.bteofalmouth.com. Preview begins on October 7-8, and online bidding opens on October 9-17. There are over 60 items to choose from, all donated by local businesses and individuals. The items range from the practical to the luxurious, including such items as fine jewelry, computer tech support, art (paintings, pottery, photographs), a Trek bicycle, a handmade dollhouse, fine wines, shopping sprees, a gas grill, fishing lessons, and numerous gift cards for local shops, dining, and services. There are many more; the online bidding and shopping can provide an easy and enjoyable way to donate to this worthy cause.
On October 15, BTEO will put a roof over 11 homeless men and women, who will be housed in two rented homes. Over the next six months, it is expected that up to 30 individuals will be housed and helped to a more permanent solution. Thanks to the continuing generosity of the Falmouth community, this period of temporary shelter has been extended each year in the five years since BTEO’s founding. BTEO expects that the need is now greater than ever due to the losses suffered by so many during this pandemic.
