This favorite local event features two music stages, strawberry shortcake and other treats, educational displays and children's activities, and dozens of food and craft vendors. New to the Strawberry Festival this year is The Best Homemade Strawberry Jam Contest (details on the web).
At the center of the festival is the Strawberry Tent, where fresh made strawberry shortcakes, as well as strawberry smoothies and chocolate-covered strawberries are available for purchase. Along the perimeter of the picnic grounds dozens of craft vendors sell handmade goods and food vendors offer a variety of lunch options. Along with many free children's activities there is an environmental education tent with displays and speakers on subjects concerning the Hudson River, pollution, and other environmental issues. There will also be booths from local civic groups, and non-profit organizations.
Two solar-powered music stages offer live music performances throughout the day. As festival goers enjoy the scenic setting of Riverfront Park on the Hudson River's shores, those who are interested in experiencing the River first hand will be able to sign up for a free sail on the Sloop Woody Guthrie. There will be 5 sails weather permitting. And, sign up is available in person at the sloop tent starting at noon.
We are still accepting craft and food vendors, and volunteers.
The Strawberry Festival is one of three annual festivals put on by the Beacon Sloop Club, which was founded in 1969 as a local affiliate of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. It is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the Hudson River and strengthening the connections between the public and the river, and is entirely run by volunteers. Those interested in volunteering at the festivals and joining the organization can learn more at the membership tent at the festival or online at www.beaconsloopclub.org. Info: 845 463-4660.
