Basics of Photoshoot planning and Editorial-inspired Fashion Photoshoots Masterclass

Kicking off the ‘Basics of Photoshoot planning and Editorial-inspired Fashion Photoshoots’ event series, Montcalm East’s very own photographer in residence Lily-Rose Butterfield (IG: @bluelightgrace) will be giving guests and visitors the opportunity to learn about the art of photoshoot planning using lighting, posing, colour and taking inspiration from leading female photographers through to shooting their very own editorial-inspired fashion photoshoot with a model under Lily-Rose’s guidance.

27th April 2024 – Mood board creation and photoshoot planning

Learning the basics of lighting, posing, colour and model styling to plan for the ultimate photoshoot. Participants will create mood boards incorporating posing ideas that express emotions and experiences, colour themes and lighting concepts that will enhance the narrative and emotional impact of their photography. Lily-Rose will share their hair and make up styling inspirations so participants can learn how to effectively add impactful styling to their photoshoot planning.

Lily-Rose will bring their own sketchbook to show the theory of mood board and photoshoot creation as an example focused on styling that evokes story and narrative and strays away from the one-dimensional representation of women, femme presenting people.

Participants are asked to bring images of feminine editorial fashion they aspire to shoot and find impactful. Examples of feminist photographers include more classics like Nan Goldin or Cindy Sherman and more radical/modern photographers such as Zanele Muholi and Sophie Ebrard.

Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks/photoshoot mood boards as Lily-Rose will be on hand to review participants' work and share professional feedback.

Participants must bring their own cameras and/or smartphones.

18th May 2024 - How to create the perfect editorial-inspired fashion photoshoot

This photography masterclass will put into practice techniques learnt in workshop one but is open to all who are looking to develop their fashion-led photography skills.

Learning the basics of female model posing will uncover opportunities for budding photographers to communicate their vision for a photoshoot and produce high-end, female fashion-forward photography.

Starting with a basic overview of feminist photographic theory, participants will learn about the basic principles of how to conduct an equitable set, and what makes a photograph feminist vs not.

Participants will leave with up to 6 different themed images that show off their newfound skills in dynamic posing and set styling.

Participants should bring their own cameras and smartphones.
