The family reunion style parade and heritage awards festival will host numerous local organizations providing information and services free to the public. Bring your lawn chairs, relax and enjoy the festive evolving cultural celebration of the African American diaspora on parade. There will be guest vendors offering various traditional and cultural merchandise and items for sale. There will be music, entertainment, dancing, ethnic cuisine and traditional Soul Food. Caribbean dishes and more. The awards for parade winners will be given out at 12:00 noon during the Heritage Awards Festival when the parade concludes at 20th and R Street, Central Park at Millcreek. The festival will host the vendors from
9:00 am until 3:00 p.m. The parade theme is Family Reunion " Saving The Village Matters " and the parade Grand Marshal is Dr. Brenda Lewis former first African American Kern High School District Assistant / Associate Administrator, who recently retired from this position In October 2021. We are honored to recognize such a dedicated educator and member of the village to serve as our parade Grand Marshal as we celebrate this 28th Annual Bakersfield Black American History Parade. We are proud to salute and honor our educators for their outstanding commitment to our youth.
