Sarasota County Libraries and The Library Foundation for Sarasota County will host Professor Eric Klinenberg, author of the New York Times Bestseller Palaces For the People; How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life.
In Palaces For The People, Klinenberg explores how spaces such as libraries, parks, schools and other gathering places contribute to a citizen’s sense of belonging and can make the difference between just-surviving and thriving.

Through his research, including observations and interviews, the author illustrates the importance of public spaces where people meet, linger and talk. The result is that people interact and connect in ways that cross all sorts of boundaries, strengthening our communities and enriching our lives.

"The library really is a palace. It bestows nobility on people who otherwise couldn't afford a shred of it. People need to have nobility and dignity in their lives. And you know, they need other people to recognize it in them too.”  Dr. Eric Klinenberg
