The Aphasia Choir of Vermont is comprised of stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors from Chittenden County and beyond who have expressive aphasia (difficulty talking or using language). Because music is largely mediated by the undamaged right hemispheres of the brains of people with aphasia, they can sing and are often fluent while singing even if they have severe difficulty speaking or are nonverbal. Past audience members have described concerts as "awe-inspiring" and "life changing." Educational information about aphasia will be shared. This event is supported in part by an award from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
