WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
This year's Anansi edition presents When They Flew, which introduces folktales around the legend of the Flying Africans, popularized in books, Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon, Virginia Hamilton's The People Could Fly, Kei Miller's Augustown; in the modern art of Constanza Knight and known through story among the state of Georgia's Gullah/Geeche people, peoples of West-Central Africa. Just us for this year's edition and other Anansi Tales folklore favorites.

{theatre}+{nafsi} FOR Youth is a mixture of Youth and Adults who weave these stories with help from the audience and community guest readers. ANANSI TALES FOR THE HOLIDAYS is a mixture of African, Caribbean, and African-American folklore presented in interactive theatre, storytelling, and puppetry. Folktales are stories traditionally passed from generation to generation orally to teach a lesson, gain insight into specific situations, or as a pass-time.

{theatre}+{nafsi} FOR Youth shares these tales with the whole family, showing "brains" is always a great option when dealing with obstacles-we're one of Rochester's newest Holiday traditions. This interactive production further enhances and frames the holiday season as a time of communal sharing.

SPECIAL KIDS INTERACTIVE SEATING
ANANSI TALES FOR THE HOLIDAYS has special seating for kids who want a closer look at the interactive action. We ask kids in the audience to come on stage to be a part of the play from time to time throughout the performance, playing with villagers, hornets, calabash, and animals.

Our talented cast of Griot Artists, local playwright/mask maker Karen D. Culley, and director Reuben J. Tapp make this performance complete. Griot Artists(Storytellers) include Doug Curry, Ky and Kesha Sharee Hartzog, Our Jr. Griot Artists include R. Josiah Tapp, Eli Williams, Elani Williams, Eli Gannello , Elianna Gannello, Justus Gayle, Ky Sim Johnson, Manuel Tapp, Davfshell Tabia, Jazmere Cohen, and Rehani Tapp.

More about {theatre}+{nafsi} FOR Youth: {theatre}+{nafsi} FOR Youth is a youth outreach to provide a storied context for life's lessons. We produce and present artistic performances illuminating the human condition through the prism of people from the African Diaspora (i.e., African-American, African, Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean, etc.). Nafsi means soul in Swahili; therefore, our name is also our mantra: Theater with Soul! "We tell compelling stories centered in the Black experience, making theater accessible to groups that often feel left out of the conversation," says Reuben J. Tapp, artistic director of {theatre}+{nafsi}.
