The American Dream

The American Dream is a celebration of America's vast panoply of great composers. This concert presents gorgeous and deeply moving works that demonstrate the breadth and depth of our own roots.

Beginning with two arias from Carlyle Floyd's opera Susannah made famous by Renée Fleming. Alan Hovhaness' string works, Songs of the Sea, envelop the listener in a rich velvet of sound. The first half of the program ends with the dynamic piano duo of Daniel del Pino and Michael Lewin playing Gershwin's jazzy Rhapsody in Blue and Bolcom's ragtime Serpent's Kiss. The inaugural performance of Copland's Appalachian Spring will be played in its original orchestration for 14 instruments including bassoon, clarinet, piano, strings, and flute.

This special evening closes with the stunning and vibrant Visions and Miracles by living American composer Theofanidis that will leave you breathless.
