Adventures in Environmental Stewardship: a Photographic Anthology

Highlighted in gorgeous photography, Zane Bernard will share his adventures in forestry, fisheries, and agriculture from Virginia to Alaska. Come learn about the battle against invasive botanical species, and why scientific breeding programs preserving endangered species can potentially rebuild entire ecosystems. See how fire ecology works and wetlands are restored. Discover how eco-tourism impacts the environment abroad and how environmentally friendly agriculture at home can help rebuild local economies as well as habitats. Gather inspiration to incorporate environmentally friendly habits into your daily life.

John "Zane" Bernard received the statewide 2022 E. C. Compton Meritorious Achievement Award for his outstanding service to Virginia's soil and water conservation movement as an Associate Director/Fellow of the James River Soil and Water Conservation District. He is the district Co-Director for internships and has made public outreach a priority. In various positions as a supervisor, instructor, or trail guide he developed and delivered integrated, immersive educational content for a wide spectrum of ages on a multitude of topics. During nearly a decade, he has obtained practical experience as an ecologist by adventuring into trail building on public lands, forestry firefighting in three states, and commercial fishing in the North Pacific. He has expertise in a wide variety of disciplines including ornithology, mushroom identification, blacksmithing, and ziplining.

About the Fredericksburg Torch Club: We provide an opportunity for persons of different professions and disciplines to meet monthly for the interchange of professional knowledge, ideas, opinions, and fellowship. It is not a service society, and does not champion a specific cause. See more at Torch.org, the website for International Association of Torch Clubs, our parent organization.

About Our Venue: The Alpine Chef in the Stube Room, enjoy a fabulous cash bar and a sumptuous Dutch treat dinner, which will include selections from the Valentine's Week Menu, or from their extensive regular menu. The Stube Room is an elegant and intimate gathering place, which allows attendees the opportunity to learn and discuss interdisciplinary topics, and supports various audio visual formats. Invite family and friends, and come join us for an intriguing evening of insights on environmental stewardship, intellectual fellowship, and fine dining.
