In today's tough economy, veterinarians are finding that many pets are often unable to receive the life-saving care that they need due to their owners' financial situation. One of the most heart-wrenching parts of our job as veterinary professionals is to see a pet euthanized or go untreated due to financial constraints.
Dr. Karen Bohon created The Santana Fund to help in just these situations. Through charitable donations from our hospital, staff, and caring clients, we have been able to accumulate funds to help many of our patients receive the specialty care that they needed, but their owners were financially unable to provide.
In memory of Dr. Bohon's first dog, Santana, the fund exists to provide an alternative to euthanasia and preserve the importance of the human-animal bond. "Our pets give so much to us and ask so little in return. Santana was with me through my difficult teenage years, college, marriage, and the first three years of veterinary school. I think the Santana Fund is one way for me to recognize how much our pets enrich our lives." - Karen Bohon, DVM
