20 Years of Archaeology in the Seymour Valley

Learn about the discovery and excavation of Japanese camps and settlements that existed in the Seymour Valley on Vancouver's North Shore from 1900 to 1950. Capilano University archaeology instructor, Bob Muckle will reveal what he and his students discovered during 13 seasons of archaeology fieldwork in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve between 2000 and 2019. Bob will also provide insight into the processes of archaeological fieldwork and thinking.

Bob Muckle has been practicing, writing about, and teaching archaeology in B.C. for 30 years. He is based at CapU, leading archaeology students on field projects in the Seymour Valley for the past two decades. He recently won an award for his public education about his archaeology projects and his work focusing on Japanese camps in the Seymour Valley has been recently been featured in local, national and international media. Forthcoming publications include Archaeology in British Columbia and Seymour Valley Archaeology Project.

Part of the Capilano Universe lecture series, this presentation is free. Registration is not required, but seating is limited. Parking is free in Lot 3.
