Zoom Vigil for National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

The Canadian Federation of University Women Victoria and St. Margaret's School, in co-operation with Victoria Women's Transition House and the BC Community Response Networks for Stopping Adult Abuse and Neglect, are inviting you to gather with them on December 6 at 4:15 pm in a vigil to mark the anniversary of the murder of 14 young women at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. These young women were killed simply because they were women.  
It is important to remember these women, as well as others across our country who have suffered or continue to suffer from violence because of their gender or sexual orientation. One of our club members, an engineering student in Montreal at the time of the massacre, will offer reflections on how the incident has impacted her over the last 30+ years. Fourteen students from the Social Justice class at St. Margaret's School will each light a candle to remember the victims and commemorate their lives. 
Gender-Based Violence is an issue relevant to us all. Speakers from Victoria Women's Transition House and the BC Community Response Networks will provide an overview of the circumstances and needs of the clients they serve and the services they offer. As well, a speaker on cyber bullying and stalking will provide insight on this contemporary concern.
This event is part of the 16 Days of Activism, a world-wide initiative of actions to raise awareness for the prevention and elimination of Gender-Based Violence.  Preventing and addressing violence against women and girls require a broad spectrum of actions that starts with our inner circle of friends and family and goes all the way to our national and international institutions. 
We need to work together on this critical issue!
