The Portland Adult Soapbox Derby is an all-volunteer run race event that typically takes place the 3rd Saturday in August each year. Racers compete head-to-head in gravity-driven vehicles of their own making as they make their way down the seven-eights of a mile track. Racers register their cars in either speed or art categories.
"The Soapbox Derby is a Portland tradition! I love doing the race every year, and though I'm in it for the speed, I enjoy seeing all the creativity and artistry in the cars as well." -Aaron Foster
This year's race will be held on 8.17.19 from 10am-4pm, with live-streaming of the races and standing running all day on our social media channels. This race marks the 22nd running of this unique gravity race down Portland's resident volcano. This year features three beer gardens on the mountain during the race as well as many other beloved food carts to fill up on while you take in the race.
There is no public parking within the confines of the park on 8/17. Please find alternative routes and parking. Please be cognizant of street parking limitations and do not block Trimet routes. You might want to bring a wagon and sun screen. Maybe some cash for food. We're all volunteers, so please be the good neighbors this community loves. Enjoy!
