On Thursday, February 6, 2020, Woodlands Conservancy is bringing great local music together with a fundraiser for wetlands forests at their 2020 Save Our Sponge Concert. The Conservancy's 840 acres of forested wetlands, located just 20 minutes from downtown New Orleans, serve as the natural hurricane buffer and storm water "sponge" for the Greater New Orleans area.

Beginning at 8:00 p.m., attendees will converge on the New Orleans Jazz Market to show support for their local forested wetlands. The Save Our Sponge Concert is headlining local band Sweet Crude, who performs in English and Louisiana-French, an unwritten language they are learning as they go. A pre-concert Patron Party will be beginning at 6 p.m. where guests are invited to enjoy complimentary gourmet appetizers and spirits while listening to music by Jason Mingledorff and the Jazz Souls. The Patron Party will also feature a Silent Auction filled with local fare. All proceeds from the Save Our Sponge Concert directly benefit efforts to preserve and restore the precious forested wetlands managed by Woodlands Conservancy.

"Louisiana is losing land faster than just about anywhere else in the world. Over the past century nearly 2,000 square miles of coastal marshes and 80% of our forested wetlands have been lost," says Katie Brasted, Woodlands Conservancy's Executive Director. "These coastal ecosystems protect our community from storms, so it is imperative that we protect and restore what we have left for the safety of our homes and businesses." The forests managed by Woodlands Conservancy are considered to likely be one of the largest forested landmasses between open water and the city of New Orleans in the next 35 to 50 years.
