The buddha, understanding that sentient beings are at different stages on the path to enlightenment, taught the teaching of ultimate reality in gradual phases in relation to each turning of the wheel of dharma. Each turning focuses on a particular subject matter which is suitable for a practitioner at a particular stage of development. Emptiness and buddha-nature are often taught outside of this context which can lead to confusion about which teaching on emptiness is definitive and obscures the essence of our ultimate nature. Khentrul Rinpooche cuts through to the essence to transmit the meaning in plain english for each turning of the wheel of dharma.

As a Rime Master, having studied in every tradition of Tibetan buddhism, Khentrul Rinpoche is uniquely qualified to help us understand these teachings in context of different traditions. As one of the world’s premiere scholars on the Zhentong view of emptiness, Khentrul Rinpoche will shed light on the rangtong / zhentong debate to point out the definitive meaning and what each perspective is saying about buddha-nature.

Shar Khentrul Jamphel Lodro Rinpoche spent the first 20 years of his life herding yak and chanting mantras on the plateaus of Tibet. Inspired by the bodhisattvas, he left his family to study in a variety of monasteries under the guidance of over twenty-five masters in all the Tibetan buddhist traditions. Due to his non-sectarian approach, he earned himself the title of Rime (unbiased) Master and was identified as the reincarnation of the famous Kalachakra Master Ngawang Chozin Gyatso. While at the core of his teachings is the recognition that there is great value in the diversity of all spiritual traditions found in this world; he focuses on the Jonang-Shambhala tradition. Thought to be extinct by many Western scholars, he found it held the most advanced teachings of Kalachakra (wheel of time) containing profound methods to harmonize our external environment with the inner world of body and mind.
