The AK Jazz Workshop August 2-7, 2021 Jazz Camp registration forms are now available at www.akjazzworkshop.org or by calling (907) 332-3234. Students will connect with their inner musical spirit by exploring the creative world of jazz improvisation with AK Jazz Artists and educators John Damberg-vibes, piano and drum set, Mark Manners-guitar, Rick Zelinsky-saxophones, Cam Cartland-drums, and Bob Andrews-bass. Beg, Int., and Adv. sections will be offered for grade 7 through adult music students. Students work in small combos of 5-7 members. Each ensemble will explore 5 songs that the students will perform in the Saturday evening student concert. Daily sessions include: ensemble rehearsals, practical music theory, ear training, creative improvisation, communication, and teaming exercises. New students must schedule a level placement audition at (907) 332-3234. Class times are from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. M-F at the UAA Fine Arts Building. The camp will feature the AJW Faculty Jazz Ensemble concert on August 6, and the AJW Student Concert on Aug 7, 2021. Tuition is $400.00. Registration deadline is July 9, 2021. Limited 1/2 and full tuition waiver work scholarships available for responsible students passionate about playing music with financial need. Classes fill up early as space is limited.
