To celebrate the support that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given to enable our work, we are pleased to invite you to a celebratory afternoon. The event is free but pre-booking is essential.
The Society has unrivalled Collections linked to the history of geographical exploration. With over two million globes, maps, charts, atlases, photographs and films, amongst other artefacts spanning over 500 years, these tell diverse stories of historical exploration and travel.
Join us for the afternoon as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. From early depictions of the moon and stars in 16th century Cosmographia, to images documenting NASA's Apollo missions of the 1970s, this afternoon travel across space and time, as documented by the Society's Collections.
In addition, Colin Stuart, an astronomy journalist, will take you through the universe with his talk Rebel Star, looking at our home star, the sun, and the pivotal role it has for our future existence on Earth.
Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
