The post Hyogo Framework states that a stronger women’s role in HFA2 and in disaster risk reduction generally needs to be defined specifically, and one of the most important tasks in formulating HFA2 strategy will be to provide that definition. Women must be enabled to take on leadership roles in disaster risk reduction and space must be made for them to do that as part of their overall involvement in deliberations.
In support of this, training pertaining to disaster risk reduction should be gender dis-aggregated so
that issues affecting one gender more than another can be identified and gender-specific
interventions devised. If HFA2 is to be more inclusive of women, this is a minimal requirement, since
knowledge is the basis for effective action.

It is imperative that capacities of both women and men must be harnessed so they can address vulnerable conditions and protect themselves, their families and communities against hazards. And this course will strengthen the participants’ knowledge and skills in integrating gender in the concepts and practices of CBDRM.
