Day 4. Maili Thach – Saurkundi Lake (3,909m.) – Maili Thach
Next morning give an early start towards the Saurkundi Lake. The route is moderate gradient to steep in between. The vast meadows keep going along all the way till the lake. These meadows are fully covered with colorful wild flowers, a perfect sight to be at. En route the moraines ridge will be faced. The boulders and rocks here are so huge that reminds of a prehistoric time. At this moraine point is the most interesting round stone said to be carved and brought up by the ‘Pandavas’ to build a wind mill. It seems right by looking at the stone, cause no human today can lift or move this stone at his own and bring at such height. Going forward leads to another meadow of fascination. The trail becomes gentler just before approaching the lake. Once reached at the lake one can see the shape of the lake as the name suggests “Saurkundi” “A lake in the shape of a frying pan”. Watching the lake a bit from above would reveal the fact of its name called as Saurkundi. It is a holy lake sacred to the thousands of people in the valley. Littering and creating noise is strictly prohibited near the lake. Spend some time taking pictures and having refreshments. Then return back the same way to the camp. Night halt in the camps at Maili Thach.
