There are only a few good Places exist in India which is suitable for Paragliding and no doubt Bir is one of them. a beautiful village situated in the west of Joginder Nagar Valley in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 2000 mtr. Because of lower hills, It is an ideal landing ground for para-gliders. Bir is famous for its various Buddhist monasteries & Tibetan colony which are worth visiting. The Tibetan colony is one of the earliest Tibetan refugee colony in India and was established in 1962 by those who opposes the Chinese invasion of Tibet. The most famous monastery in Bir is Chokling Monastery, which has a large stupa and a statue of Padmasambhava.
Billing (2600m) is just 14 km distant from Bir. A rock road connects Bir to Billing and one can trek from Bir to Billing on foot. The nearest railway station is Ahju, on the narrow-gauge line running between Pathankot and Jogindernagar via Kangra. Billing is also renowned for being the venue of the first paragliding competition and every year, The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Himachal Pradesh organizes the ‘Para Gliding Pre-world Cup’ at Bir-Billing in the month of October.
