History of cotton fabric in India is as old as you can think of. Use of cotton fabric is witnessed in
the Indian sacred texts like Rig Veda. Cotton fabric references are also mentioned in the older
texts like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas. It is speculated that the first use of cotton was
done during 3000 BC, when the excavation of Indus Valley Civilization took place especially in
the area of Mohenjo Daro and Harappa.

adequate amount of moisture and humidity to grow. Cotton plantation tends to grow in the
warmer climate that’s why it was first cultivated in India as Indian weather is humid and warm
at the same time with right amount of rainfall.
