Developing oral skills in beginners

This course aims to equip participants with the means to design and implement teaching activities that enable beginners (A1-A2) to develop their oral comprehension and expression skills. At the end of the course, participants will be able to define pedagogical objectives by selecting materials adapted to the needs and levels of the learners.

Training 

The training is provided by two expert trainers from the Alliance française de Paris: Emmanuelle Garcia and Claire Marchandeau.

  • Dates of the course: Thursday 16 and Friday 17 December 2021
  • Timetable: from 15:00 to 18:00
  • Training mode: online
  • Duration: 6 hours

The number of places is limited to 30 people (2 groups of 15).

Audience

The course is designed according to the needs identified in India. It is open to teachers of French as a foreign language:
Teachers of French as a foreign language in schools and universities;
Teachers with a minimum level of French B1.

Participation fee for the trainee or their institution

A financial contribution will be requested from the candidates upon confirmation of their selection. This contribution of 1000 INR (one thousand Indian rupees), non-refundable, is paid by the selected candidates by bank transfer to IFI.

Payment of expenses 

IFI will cover the costs of organising the 6-hour training course as indicated in the programme.

Commitments of the trainees

The trainees commit themselves to :

Participate in the entire duration of the training and respect the schedule of the programme. Certificates of attendance will be given to trainees who have attended the entire course regularly and punctually;

To pass on the skills acquired to their colleagues and students as far as possible.

Successful applicants will be required to sign an individual agreement with the IFI regarding their participation in the training.

The trainee’s registration will be definitively confirmed after IFI has received the signed agreement and the contribution to the costs.

Content of the training course

2 workshops of 3 hours each:

Day 1: Improving oral comprehension

  • Designing and implementing pedagogical activities to help learners develop their listening skills
  • Define learning objectives according to the level of the learners
  • Select materials adapted to the needs and level of the learners
  • Determine an effective approach and working methods to facilitate comprehension
  • Propose original activities in oral comprehension

Day 2: Developing oral expression

  • Design and implement teaching activities to enable learners to express themselves orally
  • Define teaching objectives according to the level of the learners
  • Select motivating tasks adapted to the learners’ level
  • Determine an effective approach and working methods to facilitate the expression
  • Propose methods that encourage interaction between learners

The trainers 

Claire Marchandeau has been a teacher in France and abroad for a variety of audiences. She is also the author of textbooks and activity books (Entre Nous 2, Maison des Langues – Cahier Inspire 1, Hachette). Today, she puts this experience at the service of teachers. Choosing motivating materials, encouraging interaction, managing the heterogeneity of a class are some areas of reflection on which she relies to help teachers in their classroom practices.

Emmanuelle Garcia has been a teacher of French as a foreign language in France and abroad with a variety of audiences. She is also co-author of the Cosmopolite collection (Hachette). She now shares her knowledge with the Alliance Française de Paris. She is committed to working on classroom dynamics, awakening curiosity, transmitting and collaborating to develop more serene classroom practices.
