An unprecedented financial crisis, with the country's foreign exchange reserves completely depleted has resulted in the inability to pay for basic foods, medicines, fertilisers, fuel, and cooking gas, leaving devastation beyond imagination.
Hyperinflation, with food prices 90% higher than a year ago, a hike in electricity costs of 125% and fuel costs 143% higher, in a country where low income households earn about £50 per month, is leading to severe hardship for ordinary people.
In response to Sri Lanka's humanitarian crisis, a UK based charity, The Association of Professional Sri Lankans UK (APSL UK) are raising funds to provide food and medicine for the most vulnerable in Sri Lanka. APSL UK have a trusted network of contacts in Sri Lanka to ensure the aid reaches those most in need.
