The conference is initiated within the framework of the Programme Support to the Armenia-Turkey Normalisation Process: Stage Two, financed by the European Union, to empower and engage the civil societies of Turkey and Armenia, to contribute to the enhanced regional peace and stability, democratic pluralism and social inclusion across and within the two societies.

The aim of the conference is to facilitate academic and policy dialogue, improving information flow, communication exchange and networking between researchers, experts, media representatives and institutions through engaging already existing and new actors in economic, cultural, educational, and awareness-raising activities between Armenia and Turkey. The Conference will serve as a forum for discussion, debates and generation of ideas as well as a networking event.

POSSIBLE TOPICS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Understanding Armenia and Turkey: mutual public perceptions*
  • Possible areas of confidence building: steps and measures
  • Consequences of local and global developments in Armenian-Turkish relations
  • Armenian-Turkish economic relations today and tomorrow: challenges and opportunities
  • Internal and external actors of the Armenian-Turkish relations: seeking ways to build bridges
  • Media coverage of Armenian-Turkish relations
  • Mobility: from tourism to migration

*Special note: Applicants are encouraged to use the output database of the public opinion survey conducted in Armenia in 2014 within the project Towards a Shared Vision of Normalization of Armenia-Turkey Relations.

CONFERENCE SESSIONS
Sessions will be selected and finalized based on the above-mentioned topics and submitted papers by March 24, 2017.
ELIGIBILITY
Scholars, experts and researchers, including think-tank and academia representatives, and PhD researchers; NGO and civil society representatives; media representatives; policy makers (including government agencies) and representatives of international organizations interested in the subject are welcome to apply. Applicants from Armenia and Turkey are especially encouraged to contribute to and attend the conference.
SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
Prospective participants are hereby invited to submit abstracts by the deadline mentioned in the IMPORTANT DATES section.
ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
The following criteria will be used to evaluate and select the submitted abstracts:

  1. Abstracts should be submitted in English and be no longer than 300 words.
  2. Abstracts must bear relevance to one of the subjects described in the Possible Topics section.
  3. Abstracts must be logically coherent and must accurately reflect the purpose, structure, argument and conclusions of the paper.
  4. Citations must be equipped with accurate references to the sources.

Requirements for full papers will be provided individually to the authors of selected abstracts.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The Conference Steering Committee will select the Conference speakers on a competitive basis. Individuals whose paper abstracts will have been selected by the end of selection process will be contacted to submit full papers.
Selected papers and speeches will be published on the websites of CRRC-Armenia, Eurasia Partnership Foundation-Armenia and Hrant Dink Foundation within a month of the Conference.

CONFERENCE LANGUAGES
The Conference will be conducted in Armenian and English. Simultaneous translation will be available.
FEES AND COSTS
There is no participation fee, and the conference participants will be provided with meals on the day(s) of the conference. However, the participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation. Facilitation in arranging accommodation will be provided upon request of participants.
LIMITED FUNDING
Limited funding is available for 5 participants from Turkey to contribute toward travel and up to 3 nights of accommodation in Yerevan.

ATNP2 builds upon the achievements of ATNP1 implemented between 2014-2015.The overall objective of the programme is to empower and engage the civil societies of Turkey and Armenia to contribute to the enhanced regional peace and stability, democratic pluralism and social inclusion across and within their societies.
